It is with great honor and excitement that I step into the role of Head of the Department of Physics at Covenant University, Ota. I am deeply grateful for the trust placed in me, and I look forward to leading this department to new heights of academic excellence and innovation. I thank God for how He started with us and how far He has led us. Department of Physics started as a servicing unit to other programmes in the college, until September, 2004 when it became a full fledge Department offering Industrial Physics, programme.

The Department offers courses in the following specialties:

1. Applied Geophysics;
2. Electronics and Information Technology Applications; and
3. Renewable Energy.

These three options of Industrial Physics are all-time viable and very relevant to a nation like ours, still trailing the path of development and seeking opportunity for global impact. It is thus a worthwhile adventure for anyone who desires to specialize in any of these options. The aim of the Department is to produce graduates with capacity to understand this rich philosophical and all embracing Science discipline called Physics. The Department offers degree programs leading to the B.Sc, M.Sc and M.Phil/Ph.D. in Industrial Physics. The B.Sc degree is awarded with options in Applied Geophysics, Electronics and Information Technology Applications, and Renewable Energy, respectively.

The Department is adequately staffed with qualified and experienced faculty and staff to provide quality education to the students. Also, there are well-equipped laboratories with up to date facilities for students. There are also current and modern computer oriented courses that place our graduates at the same pedestal as their foreign counterparts to compete favorably in the current labour market and who also possess potentials to be a job creator. We have modern ICT-driven and interactive teaching/learning facilities, state-of-the-art laboratories and workshops, and a rare crop of eminent scholars, committed and highly motivated faculty and staff. These, coupled with the unique serene and green environment of Covenant University, certainly makes learning in the department a pleasurable experience.

Department of Physics carries a rich history that motivates students to discover, develop their analytical thinking skills and teaches them scientific abilities leading to future generations of scientific minds. Moving forward, I aim to build up our dedication towards outstanding research along with high-quality teaching methods and collaborative spaces that enable each student, staff and faculty member for success. I believe that the study of Physics not only unlocks the mysteries of the universe but also provides the foundational skills necessary to address the complex challenges of today’s world. Whether through groundbreaking research, cutting-edge experiments, or the application of scientific principles to real-world problems, we are poised to make a lasting impact in both academia and industry.

I would like to appreciate the effort of previous HODs for their commitments. Together, we will continue to build a department that thrives on curiosity, integrity, and a passion for discovery.
